Summer Endeavor Ideas

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 9 months ago

Just some ideas for summer learning...

  • Google Earth applications
    • Adding tabs to site
    • Adding video and websites to site
      • I saw a teacher whose students  read historical fiction and then found the setting of the book on Google Earth.  Inserted onto the page was a short summary of the book, pics, and video about the historical aspect of the story.  Would love to learn how to do this.
    • My delicious account has google earth tutorials to try out this summer http://del.icio.us/LisaParisi/Google
  • Second Life
    • I'm tired of wandering around wondering where to go and how to get there.  Have seen D. Warlick's office and was impressed but want to know why I have to learn a game to create something useful.  However, would love to connect with the people in Second Life...lots of gurus.
  • WebCam usage and Skyping
  • Audacity - for podcasting
  • GarageBand - for uploading podcasts - also gcast and podomatic are good sources
  • Tapped In
  • RSS feeds - setting up a feed for student and teacher use.  Pageflakes for students and teachers
  • VideoSubtitles dotsub.com - make videos accesible for the hard of hearing and for for speakers of different languages

    Voice Thread
  • YackPack
  • Blogs - finding ways to use blogs to create conversations
  • Online Desktops - discussing ways that these might be used to assist students with collaboration.   Getsparc online desktop + 50giga storage

Conferencing - exploring ways to use these tools with other teachers and with students.

  • Online Office Suites - Zoho has a very useful set of free tools including wiki, notebook, documents and spreadsheets, online conference, the list goes on... Other suites, thinkfree, goffice, google apps.
  • Del.icio.us - Add "teach20" to useful delicious links - subscribe to the tag "teach20" or visit it here http://del.icio.us/tag/teach20
  • Diigo or other social annotation tools

I'm already overwhelmed by the amount of things I want to go through this summer and it's only my first day of vacation!

I guess that means we need to narrow down some things and begin looking at what would be useful for different people. We need to figure out a way to set up some meetings of some sort. Maybe a calendar might help.

The calendar is a wonderful idea. Thanks for adding it. I already posted my birthday, so we can celebrate - LOL.
